The First part of the episode covers the growth of Prussia authority and the decline of Austria. The second part covers the methods and results of German unification and its ramifications for Europe. Twitter: 🤍twitter.com/Tenminhistory Ten Minute History is a series of short, ten minute animated narrative documentaries that are designed as revision refreshers or simple introductions to a topic. Please note that these are not meant to be comprehensive and there's a lot of stuff I couldn't fit into the episodes that I would have liked to. Thank you for watching, though, it's always appreciated.
Now Bismarck was actually against the annexation of Alsasce/Lorraine.
Why?
He knew it would put a target on Germany as France would stop at nothing to avenge this.
Bismarck was right.
One of the big reasons why France declared war on Prussia was because France thought it would have the support of the southern German states who had issues/emenity with Prussia.
Spoiler alert:
Not only did the southern German states not support France, they signed a treaty of alliance with Prussia
Thus Napoleon III, without realizing it,aided Bismarck in his cause of German unification
he switiches the colors for holstein and scehwig
German🫂
XD sore loser moment the asturia
"and also became a global center of science."
GERMAN SCIENCE IS ZE BEST IN ZE VOOOOORLD!
tq91I3TnWu4&t=5m08s 5:08 Was that Reinhardt from Overwatch?
I’ve watched this video so many times but only just noticed Reinhardt
As a historian, i can confirm that its totally not the holy roman empire under a different name.
tq91I3TnWu4&t=7m25s 7:25 the place where Germany would be officially formed would be the same place where they would sign the treaty of their surrender ending the empire they created
love the videos. i spend most of my spare time watching. keep up the good work and thanks
So it was already unified before it was unified 😂😂
Take a shot every time he says “so they declared war.”
Never had I watched a video that didn't include James Bissonnette.
tq91I3TnWu4&t=5m13s 5:13 what Reinhardt doing there
I remember what a German friend of mine from West Berlin said in the early 1980’s—she thought that East and West Germany would never unify, because, after all, the concept of a “unified” German state was a relatively recent development, historically speaking, and it hadn’t led to very good things in the 20th century.
Prussia probably doesn’t unify germany if they got what they wanted in 1815
So in 1871 when the german pushed that far into france they gave it back 😅 werid id like to see more about them wars starting from ww1 and work back wards 😂
A rare map error, at tq91I3TnWu4&t=5m29s 5:29 . While the narration is correct ("Prussia received Schleswig; Austria received Holstein"), the map shows the reverse. Austrians would have to cross Prussian territory and the Zollverein to get there, but it was also true that Prussians had to cross Austrian Holstein to get to Schleswig, and that was all the grievance Bismarck needed.
