Yerevan is the capital of Armenia. It's a post Soviet country that's trying hard to build its economy, attract tourism and live a prosperous life. #Yerevan
Recently my friend Alena 🤍DepressedRussian and I travelled to Armenia! Since the beginning of the war, many Russians have been moving here as well. And I heard that in comparison with Georgia, Armenia has better relationships with Russia, and people there are more willing to speak Russian with expats. So I went there to see it myself, and understood much more about our countries' relationships. I also enjoyed exploring the city of Yerevan and learning about Armenian culture. I hope you'll like it too! Travel Documentary Armenia. 🇦🇲 Join us on an impactful journey through Yerevan, the capital of the former Soviet Republic of Armenia in the South Caucasus, right during the days when a new war has erupted between Armenia/Azerbaijan over the Nagorno-Karabakh region. Azerbaijan launched a large-scale attack against Nagorno-Karabakh on September 19, resulting in the tragic loss of hundreds of innocent lives. Although a ceasefire is currently in place, the atmosphere in Armenia (Hayastan) and its capital, Yerevan, remains tense. People are demonstrating and crying out that Azerbaijan is perpetrating a genocide against the people of Nagorno-Karabakh. We take you into the heart of these protests in Yerevan, where citizens are demanding change, including the resignation of Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and urgent assistance for displaced Nagorno-Karabakh residents. Witness the fervent chants and acts of civil action in Republic Square, in front of the Government building and throughout the city. We explore the human side of this conflict as we engage with protesters, the police, local residents who are providing aid to refugees, a human rights advocate, and the prominent politician Suren Petrosyan, leader of Armenia's Democratic Union Party, who is currently on a hunger strike. But what is the core of this conflict? The Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict has deep historical roots. It's a battle over control and residency in Nagorno-Karabakh (known as Artsakh to Armenians), a region recognized internationally as part of Azerbaijan but predominantly inhabited by Armenians. Azerbaijan seeks total control, while Karabakh Armenians fight for self-determination, fearing oppression and even ethnic cleansing under Azerbaijani rule. This new outbreak of war, disguised as an "anti-terrorism operation" by Azerbaijan, had been brewing for months. As a result, the region's population of 120,000 Armenians faces a dire humanitarian crisis marked by food shortages, power outages, and restricted aid access due to the Lachin corridor's closure by Azerbaijan. The people of Nagorno-Karabakh, along with their supporters, relatives, and friends in Armenia, feel abandoned, believing that Armenia, the EU, the USA, and even the Russian peacekeepers have not done enough to protect them, resulting in the tragic death of hundreds of Artsakh Armenians. This situation reminds of the tragic event called the Armenian Genocide from 1915 to 1923. During this time, the Ottoman Empire, which is now modern-day Turkey, systematically killed or deported a large portion of its Armenian population, leading to the death of an estimated 1.5 million Armenians. We pay our respects at Yerevan's Tsitsernakaberd Memorial complex, which is dedicated to the memory of the genocide's victims. Our journey also takes us to the iconic Mother Armenia statue, a symbol of Armenia, situated in Victory Park and overlooking the capital city. Its location on a hill makes it look like a guardian of the Armenian capital (the Pink City). This is an eye-opening journey into the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict and into the heart of Armenia’s capital city, accompanied by a tour of Yerevan's most significant landmarks, including Republic Square, Khachkar Square (near Vernissage), Freedom Square, Alexander Tamanyan Park, the Cascade Complex, Mother Armenia Statue, Victory Park, Tsitsernakaberd, and the Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex with its eternal flame. I landed at Yerevan Airport and hailed a Yandex Taxi to take me to the Katar Hostel. Although there was a slight delay in checking in, I was soon shown to my room. After a quick nap, I headed out to explore the Vernissage Souvenir Market and bought a few things. I also climbed the Cascade Complex, which offered a breathtaking view of the city. Later, I went to Victory Park to see the statue of Mother Armenia and tried lavash, a delicious traditional Armenian dish. ▷ More videos from Armenia: 🤍 ▷ Also watch: 🤍 ► 🤍 ► 🤍 ► 🤍 ► Second channel: youtube.com/🤍maartentravels_ ► 🤍 ► maarten🤍maartentravels.com 0:00 Yerevan Airport 1:50 Yandex Taxi 4:06 Kantar Hostel 8:10 Vernissage Market 13:46 Drinking Kvass 17:12 Cascade Complex 21:59 Victory Park 26:36 Eating Lavash #armenia #yerevan #solotravel

2 Brits On A travel Adventure To Yerevan Armenia 🇦🇲 🇬🇧 Join me and my son David on the craziest journey to Yerevan Armenia. The Adventure begins in Riga Latvia where we board a Wizz Air flight to Kutaisi Georgia, with the aim of arriving in Yerevan as soon as possible. Armed with no plan we land in Kutaisi at almost 1 am, with no internet connection and make our way to the Kutaisi Train Station. To our delight, the next train to Tbilisi is at 2:30am. As we waited for the train to Tbilisi, we found ourselves at a deserted train station with only a wild dog to entertain us. Stranded with no food, and no cash to get anything from a cash-only vending machine, the night watchman finally arrived. I thought our luck was changing and we would now get fed and sort out some internet. None of that happened!!! We finally get on the overcrowded train and after almost 5 hours we arrive in Tbilisi in the early hours of the morning, to find everything is closed. Now we are hungry and aggravated, but we stick to the mission and figure out how to get to Yerevan. So we hop in a cab and go to the Bus Station to take a minibus to Yerevan. This being my first time riding a Marshrutka from Tbilisi to Yerevan I did not know what to expect. I was firstly surprised and disappointed that the trip was another 6 hours, but also horrified once I saw how crazy the driver was. If you enjoy adventure videos from the former Soviet Union and Central & Eastern Europe, then grab your vodka, some zakusky and join me as we go on the craziest of travel adventures to Yerevan in Armenia. Hi everyone! This is episode nine of my Caucasus series in which I travel through Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia. As the title suggests, this video should give you valuable information on whether you should put this city on your travel list. Regardless of my comments, suggestions or views, only you can make the final decision! In this video, I visit Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. The vlog starts with a view of the city and Mount Ararat from the Cascade Complex, the main attraction in Yerevan. Legend has it that Noah's Ark is situated on Mount Ararat, which is actually located in modern Turkey, but is also a symbol of Yerevan as you can see the mountain from the city on a clear day. The Cascade Complex, made from limestone, was constructed in the Soviet era in two parts, and one can either walk to the top or take the escalator in the Cafesjian Center for the Arts - a handy tip for lazy tourists like myself! I talk about the history of Armenia as well as the origin of the name 'Yerevan', for which there are various theories. The general consensus amongst modern scholars appear to be that it is derived from the Erebuni Fortress and that Yerevan was established in 782 BC which makes the city older than Rome. The name of Yerevan during Persian rule was 'Irivan', until the Russians captured Irivan and renamed it 'Erivan'. Yerevan and Armenia was also part of the Russian Empire and later the Soviet Union - it declared independence on 28 April 1918 but the Red Army invaded again in 1920, which started the Sovietisation of Armenia. Yerevan was a small provincial town during the Russian Empire but grew considerably in the 20th century. Its current population is just over one million. Armenia declared independence from the Soviet Union on 21 September 1991, roughly three months before the Soviet Union completely collapsed. Yerevan is also nicknamed the 'Pink City' due to the large number of buildings made from volcanic tuff, a type of rock made from volcanic ash. Yerevan still maintains a very Soviet feel in terms of its architecture and statues that are scattered all across the city in parks and other public spaces. In the area around the complex, there are also beautiful works of art, nice coffee shops and jazz bars. I was told people in Yerevan love coffee! After visiting the Cascade Complex, we walk towards the center (also known as 'Kentron') and pass various parks and other green spaces, as well as the Armenian National Opera and Ballet Theatre located on Liberty Square (which I mistakenly later refer to as 'France Square' due to misreading my map!). I briefly mention religion and that Armenia is the oldest Christian country in the world, with the Armenian Apostolic Church as the national church in the country. I also mention Vardavar, the summer festival that takes place on the 14th Sunday after Easter and where people drench each other with water during the hot summer. After visiting Liberty Square (which also features bumper cars!), we head to Northern Avenue, a major pedestrian avenue in the city renowned for its shopping but also luxury residential flats. We are greeted at the outset by a mascot that promotes the 2023 European Weightlifting Championships in Yerevan as well as large buildings that show off the luxurious side of the city. I also visit the Tashir Street Shopping Gallery, which is an underground area, and explain the meaning behind the Armenian flag, also known as the 'Armenian Tricolour'. We also see the symbolic Key of Yerevan. We then head towards Republic Square, where I talk more about the use of volcanic tuff in the construction of the five main buildings around the square. After our brief visit here, we head to Vernissage, a flea market / open shopping area selling authentic Armenian products. I also have a street lunch here at the end of the market. After lunch, I head back to the center and pass through Vernissage again, before walking through several streets again including Nalbandyan Street, Tumanyan Street and Abovyan Street. We also pass Saint Anna Church the nearby Yerevan State Puppet Theatre, after which I quench my thirst with a smoothie from one of the smoothie bars. We also pass the Moscow Cinema and the Yerevan Grand Hotel before walking back to the hostel along Pushkin Street, where I show my room and some of the common areas in the hostel. Throughout the vlog, I make various observations and impressions regarding Yerevan, whilst also offering tips and advice that might be useful should you decide to visit the city. And that is the aim of this video - to help you decide whether Yerevan is the right destination for YOU! Hope you enjoy this video! All photographs and video clips in this video are from my vacation. Video edited by 🤍JessicaShaw A few small corrections. * Google translate does support Armenian for text but not voice. It does do voice translation for Russian. * You can also fly to Armenia via Qatar and may be able to have fewer connections * There are more options for getting to Armenia from the US via Europe than I experienced out of Denver. From your location you may find better options. When I booked my trip no matter what I did it always took me in and out of Yerevan to Europe at 4am. * If you ask a waiter in a restaurant to add a tip to the bill they will. But it's not automatic like it is in the US 20 Travel Tips I wish I knew before visiting Yerevan, Armenia: -Bring treats for Yerevan street dogs -Don’t rent a car -Walk around Yerevan in safety -Flashing police lights do not mean that you are in trouble. Getting yelled at in Armenian over a loudspeaker might mean that you are though -Bring both cash and credit cards. American Express is not widely accepted Avoid getting large bills (10,000 or 20,000 drams) when exchanging currency -Streetlights have a countdown timer telling you how long you have to cross or how long you have to wait -Use Google translate when needed, don’t expect many people to speak English -Don’t bother to smile or nod at strangers on the street. They won’t -Don’t try to fly to Armenia in one long travel day. It’s just too much -Give yourself plenty of time for your connecting flights -Try to upgrade to business class on your flight out -Do walk up the cascade complex and to the genocide memorial and sculpture gardens -Get Google Fi for your travel cellphone -Go on a tour to Garni Temple, Symphony of Stones, and Gerhardt Monastery -If you have the fitness level, take a hiking tour; perhaps to the south peak of Mount Aragats -Get an ice cream or smoothie at any one of the hundreds of small shops -Explore the parks and especially see the water fountain shows at night -Souvenir shopping at Vernissage -Enjoy the nightlife in Yerevan especially the open air bars and cafes with live music near Republic Square and the Opera House

In this video, I take you on a walking tour of Yerevan, the capital and largest city of Armenia and one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. I start from Saryan Park, a beautiful park that is named after the famous Armenian painter Martiros Saryan. This park is a popular place for locals and tourists alike to relax, have a picnic, or enjoy the art and culture of Yerevan. You can see some of the sculptures and paintings that are inspired by Saryan’s works, as well as the colorful fountain that changes its colors according to the music. I then walk to Mashtots Avenue, one of the main and busiest streets in Yerevan, where you can see the mix of old and new architecture, from Soviet-era buildings to modern shopping malls and hotels. You can also admire the monuments and statues that commemorate the heroes and leaders of Armenia, such as Mesrop Mashtots, the inventor of the Armenian alphabet, and Alexander Tamanyan, the chief architect of Yerevan. I then turn to Tumanyan Street, named after the great Armenian poet Hovhannes Tumanyan. This street is full of life and charm, with many cafes, restaurants, shops, and galleries where you can enjoy the authentic flavors and hospitality of Yerevan. I then continue to Koghbatsi Street, another important street in Yerevan that connects the Opera House and the Republic Square. This street is also known for its vibrant nightlife, with many bars, clubs, and pubs where you can have fun and meet new people. I then walk to Pushkin Street, named after the famous Russian poet Alexander Pushkin. This street is full of greenery and beauty, with many trees that turn yellow in autumn and create a stunning contrast with the blue sky. You can also see some of the attractions that make this street unique, such as the Blue Mosque, the only active mosque in Armenia, and the Matenadaran, a museum and research center that houses thousands of ancient manuscripts and books. I then reach Northern Avenue, a pedestrian avenue that links the Opera House and the Republic Square. This avenue is a modern and stylish part of Yerevan, where you can find some of the most luxurious and fashionable shops, restaurants, and hotels in the city. You can also enjoy the street singers and musicians who perform various genres of music, from classical to rock to folk. I then walk to Republic Square, the main square of Yerevan and the heart of the city. This square is a stunning architectural masterpiece that features fountains, sculptures, gardens, and terraces that offer breathtaking views of the city and Mount Ararat. The square also houses some of the most important buildings in Yerevan, such as the Government House, the History Museum, and the National Gallery. The square also hosts various events and shows that showcase the art and culture of Yerevan, such as the famous dancing fountains that light up at night. Finally, I end my tour at Tigran Mets Avenue, a prestigious avenue that hosts some of the most prominent political and diplomatic buildings in Yerevan. You can also see some of the attractions that make this avenue unique, such as Russia Mall, one of the largest shopping malls in Armenia that offers a variety of shops, restaurants, entertainment facilities, Old Russia Cinema, one of the oldest cinemas in Yerevan that still operates today.
