"Private First Class Bradley Manning, the American soldier accused of leaking hundreds of thousands of classified and confidential military and diplomatic documents to the anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks, took the stand in a military court today to make his first public statements since his arrest in 2010. Manning appeared confident and animated at a pre-trial hearing at Fort Meade in Maryland as he described the mental breakdowns and extreme depression he suffered during his first year in detention, from cells in Iraq and Kuwait to the Marine base at Quantico in Virginia. Within weeks of his arrest, Manning said, he became convinced he was going to die in custody. "I was just a mess. I was really starting to fall apart," the 24-year-old former Army intelligence analyst said. Manning said he didn't remember an incident while in Kuwait where he bashed his head into a wall or another where he fashioned a noose out of a bed sheet as his civilian attorney, David Coombs, said he had, but Manning did say he felt he was "going to die... [in] an animal cage."* Bradley Manning, the solider accused of 'wikileaking' classified documents finally spoke publicly about his treatment while being detained. China aseguró que seguirá tomando "las medidas que sean necesarias" para "salvaguardar su seguridad" después de que el Pentágono denunciase que un caza chino llevó a cabo maniobras "innecesarias" y "agresivas" para interceptar un avión de reconocimiento de EE.UU. en el mar de China Meridional. "Las operaciones de reconocimiento de Estados Unidos se producen desde hace mucho tiempo y violan la seguridad y la soberanía de China. Son la fuente de los problemas de seguridad marítimas", dijo la portavoz de Exteriores Mao Ning, en respuesta a una pregunta sobre el incidente. Mao agregó que China seguirá "tomando las medidas que sean necesarias" para "salvaguardar resueltamente su soberanía y seguridad". El Comando del Indopacífico de EE.UU. The sightings of UFOs traversing the ocean are not new. On June 18, 1845 according to the Malta Times (Malta is a group of islands in the Mediterranean south of Sicily. A British colony until 1964) "We find the brigantine Victoria some 900 miles east of Adalia, when her crew saw three luminous bodies emerge from the sea into the air. They were visible for ten minutes, flying a half mile from the ship." There were other witnesses who saw this same UFO phenomena from Adalia, Syria and Malta. The luminous bodies each displayed an apparent diameter larger than the size of the full moon. On March 22, 1870, in the equatorial waters of the Atlantic Ocean, the sailors of the English corvette Lady of the Lake saw a lenticular cloud with a long tail advancing against the wind. This form was visible for an hour, wrote Captain F.W. Banner in the ship's log. The drawing by Banner in his log looked extraordinarily like a flying saucer. There are thousands of these reported sightings, many with pictures as well. In addition there are reports of bases off the coast of different countries, such as northern South America; Puerto Rico; Russia; under the North Sea; Scotland; Patagonia Coast, Argentina; Azores Islands, Portugal; Spain; Canaries; Canada; Japan; USA; Dominican Republic; Spitzbergen, Norway; Newfoundland, among others. July 1967 - a Dutch multi-national businessman was contacted in the Oostscheld, below Amsterdam, by extraterrestrial beings who said they came from a place called Iarga, some 11 light years from our sun as we calculate distance. They were observing us from underwater and they allowed this man to visit the spacecraft in its underwater location. This is a very well documented case filling more than 400 pages of a book called UFO Contact From Planet Iarga. Commander Graham Bethune, U.S. Navy (retired) was flying his military plane from Iceland to Newfoundland on February 10, 1951 when he saw a UFO coming out of the water. He was about 300 miles from his destination, when he and his crew saw a glow on the water like approaching a city at night. "As we approached this glow it turned to a monstrous circle of white lights on the water. Then we saw a yellow halo, small, much smaller than whatever it was launched from, about 15 miles away. As the UFO approached my plane and flew alongside it, we could see the domed craft which had a corona discharge." A witness for the Disclosure Project, presented at the National Press Club on May 9, 2001 in Washington DC, was Dan Willis, U.S. Navy. He worked in the code room of the communication station in San Francisco. He received a priority message, classified as Secret, from a military ship near Alaska. The ship reported, emerging out of the ocean, near port bow, a brightly glowing, reddish-orange elliptical object approximately 70 feet in diameter. En marzo y abril de 2018, los países socios recibirán los perfiles de país actualizados de SWA Collaborative Behaviors. Los perfiles mostrarán el progreso realizado por los gobiernos y sus socios de desarrollo en los Comportamientos de colaboración para 1) mejorar el liderazgo gubernamental en la planificación del sector; 2) fortalecer y utilizar los sistemas nacionales; 3) utilizar una plataforma de información y responsabilidad mutua; y 4) construir estrategias sostenibles de financiación del sector de agua y saneamiento. Cuando salta a los medios de comunicación, suele hacerlo en forma de titulares sensacionalistas, escritos en la mayoría de ocasiones por gente que no conoce bien la cuestión, y en los que se habla de venta de armas o drogas, pornografía infantil o redes terroristas. Aunque no sea cierto, la deep web es pintada como el octavo círculo del infierno de Dante. Y, claro, hace falta un Virgilio digital para adentrarse en un lugar aparentemente tan peligroso. Lo curioso, es que el guía del averno -el llamado proyecto TOR, la red de comunicaciones con la que acceder a la internet profunda- tiene como mecenas a compañías como Google, y haya instituciones tan prestigiosas como la universidad de Cambridge o Human Rights Watch que lo avalen. Porque la principal característica de la deep web no es lo que allí se puede encontrar, sino que se entra a la misma en condiciones de absoluto anonimato: nadie sabe quién eres, desde dónde te estás conectando ni el lugar al que deseas llegar. De esa tarea, la de hacer invisible y borrar las pistas del usuario, es de lo que se ocupa TOR. El proyecto TOR (acrónimo de The Onion Router) fue creado por Roger Dingledine, Nick Mathewson y Paul Syverson y puesto en marcha por el Laboratorio de Investigación Naval de los Estados Unidos en el año 2003. Un proyecto militar en manos de la inteligencia para poder navegar por Internet sin ser identificado. La revista Rolling Stone, en un artículo que titulaban astutamente con un llamativo “buscando camellos, traficantes de armas y disidentes políticos”, señalaba la paradoja de que el departamento de Defensa estuviera persiguiendo actividades realizadas gracias a una idea financiada principalmente por ellos. Esto es así porque en realidad la deep web no es la versión online de un barrio de San Salvador repleto de delincuentes. La posibilidad de navegar de forma anónima no está pensada para cometer delitos (ni por supuesto se usa mayoritariamente para ello), sino para garantizar la seguridad del usuario gracias a que nadie puede acceder (a no ser que él mismo lo permita) a sus datos privados. En la actualidad TOR, que está programado con software libre, se sustenta en el trabajo de voluntarios y se financia a través de donaciones. Tiene más de dos millones y medio de usuarios, entre los que hay periodistas, activistas y ciudadanos de países con gobiernos dictatoriales que necesitan evitar la censura; pero también gente corriente que elige este sistema para evitar que les geolocalicen, que empresas sin escrúpulos vendan sus datos o, simplemente, que terceros se enteren de sus conversaciones privadas. A pesar de los altos niveles de seguridad de TOR, el propio Nick Mathewson, uno de sus creadores, cree que la invisibilidad completa no es tan fácil de conseguir. E insiste en la necesidad de utilizar sistemas más seguros y concienciarnos de que somos los principales interesados en preservar nuestros datos personales. De esta forma Internet será un lugar mejor. Y ofrece algunos consejos para hacerlo: “encripta tu disco duro, encripta tu teléfono, no uses las redes sociales para nada importante y utiliza herramientas como TOR para navegar por Internet”.
