Reviewing the Poco F5 Pro mid-range smartphone with flagship style specs, including an unboxing, camera test, gaming and more. I've been using Xiaomi's Poco F5 Pro for a week now and here's my thoughts on this well-specced mobile, one of the best value of 2023 so far! This MiUI 14 phone isn't quite as beefy or desirable as actual flagship smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S23, but it isn't far off. That design may be plastic and the camera is a mere 64MP shooter, but you do get OIS and the Poco F5 Pro can shoot clever looking pics and movies most times of day. Likewise, the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 may be getting on a wee bit, but it's still powerful enough to smash any game out there. Battery life is respectable, although I did finish most days on dregs (around ten percent remaining). That AMOLED screen is an absolute stunner, while the Poco F5 Pro also sports a stereo speaker setup. You've got plenty of storage packed in, although there's no microSD support. Unboxing the Poco F5 from Xiaomi, with a full comparison vs the F5 Pro for gaming, camera performance & specs. The Poco F5 boasts some clever tech and sleek design, but is it one of the best mid-range smartphones right now? Or should you upgrade to the Poco F5 Pro? For one, the camera tech is basically identical, although the regular Poco F5 maxes out at 4K video and you don't get the same focus action. Both can spaff out good looking photos and video in all but the lowest light. While the regular Poco F5 is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2, the Pro packs in an 8 Plus Gen 1. Regardless, these smartphones both offer a smooth gaming experience with Genshin Impact and other Android titles. Xiaomi Poco F5 Pro Review: The New Mid-Range King? 0:00 - Intro This is the Xiaomi Poco F5 Pro, a phone that aims to redefine mid-range smartphones. 0:19 - Design First, let’s start with the design. The phone has been crafted with a keen eye for ergonomics, making it lightweight and easy to use with one hand. It has a USB-C port and SIM tray on the bottom edge, a practical and now standard design choice that is found in most modern smartphones. The build quality of the F5 Pro appears to be impressive, with a glossy finish that gives it a premium feel. The phone is available in 4 colors, black, white, blue, and green. Another standout feature is its camera setup, which includes three rear cameras and a front-facing camera. 1:03 - Display Now, let’s talk about the display. The Poco F5 Pro boasts a large 6.67-inch AMOLED display. The display features an impressive resolution of 1440 x 3200 pixels, boasting a 20:9 aspect ratio and a pixel density of 526 PPI. The phone’s screen supports a 120Hz refresh rate, which is a major advantage for smooth scrolling and gaming experiences. In terms of color accuracy and depth, the display supports 12-bit color depth, which can display a wide gamut of colors accurately, which is important for photo editing and enjoying media content to the fullest. The peak brightness of the display is up to 1400 nits. The display also supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, which means that the screen can deliver high dynamic range content. The viewing angles are good, mainly because AMOLED displays typically offer excellent viewing angles, with little color shift or contrast loss when viewed from the side. 3:05 - Camera Now, let’s talk about the camera. The Poco F5 Pro houses a versatile triple camera setup on the rear, consisting of a 64-megapixel f/1.8 primary camera, an 8-megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide lens, and a 2-megapixel f/2.4 macro lens. Additionally, it features a 16-megapixel f/2.5 front camera for selfies and video calls. Starting with the 64-megapixel Omnivision OB64B primary camera, this is a fairly high-resolution sensor that should be capable of capturing a great amount of detail. The high megapixel count implies that it should be able to produce sharp images with a good level of detail, which will be particularly noticeable when viewing photos at full size or zooming in. The 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera provides the capability to capture wider scenes, which can be particularly useful for landscape photography or when trying to fit a large group of people into the frame. However, this ultra-wide camera's output can be a bit disappointing at times, with images lacking sharpness and color accuracy, producing some washed-out colors. The 2-megapixel macro lens allows for close-up photography, capturing detailed photos of small subjects or intricate textures. On the front, the Poco F5 Pro is equipped with a 16MP sensor, which delivers good selfie shots. Talking about video quality. The phone supports video recording up to 8K24, 4K60, and 1080P240 with the main camera, and up to 1080p60 with the selfie camera. 4:42 - Battery Now, let’s talk about the battery. The Poco F5 Pro features a substantial 5160mAh Li-Po battery. This large battery capacity, combined with efficient power management, should allow the phone to last through a day of heavy usage quite comfortably. The phone's battery life is impressive, even with heavy usage. Under regular usage conditions, the device seems to offer more than six hours of screen-on time. This implies that the phone should easily last a full day on a single charge under normal use, and possibly even two days with light use. The Poco F5 Pro comes with a 67W Turbo Charger, which promises to charge the phone from 0-100% in about 45 minutes. The Poco F5 Pro is the first phone from Poco to feature wireless charging. 6:07 - Hardware and Performance Now, let’s talk about the hardware and performance. The Poco F5 Pro is powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor. The phone comes equipped with 8GB of RAM. This is a generous amount of memory that should allow the Poco F5 Pro to handle multitasking with ease. The Poco F5 Pro is available with either 128GB or 256GB of storage.
