Former cabinet ministers Matt Hancock and Kwasi Kwarteng told a fake overseas company looking for MP advisers their daily rate for consultancy would be £10,000. In a sting operation set up by campaign group Led By Donkeys, Mr Hancock and Mr Kwarteng both set out six-figure sums for what they would expect to be paid to advise a non-existent firm in South Korea. There is no accusation of wrongdoing, with MPs permitted to seek employment outside of Parliament. Mr Hancock, asked whether he had a daily rate during an online “interview”, said: “I do, yes. Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) federal director Franco Terrazzano and Quebec director Nicolas Gagnon hold a news conference on Parliament Hill to release the results of a Léger survey on planned pay increases for MPs, as well as tax increases, that are set to take effect on April 1. On the eve of the federal budget, the CTF is calling on the government to scrap the pay raise and the tax hikes amid rising inflation. Alcohol prices will rise due to the increased federal alcohol excise duty, while the scheduled federal carbon pricing increase will raise the cost of gasoline and natural gas. Under legislation that was passed in 2005 in an effort to depoliticize pay for parliamentarians, the salaries for MPs increase automatically every year on April 1 based on the average increase negotiated by major private-sector bargaining units. Ouça esse e outros comentários: 🤍 Em mais um passo da queda de braços entre os presidentes da Câmara e do Senado, Arthur Lira aceitou as comissões mistas para análise de Medidas Provisórias, mas quer mais espaço nos colegiados. Os deputados querem a proporcionalidade de um senador para cada três deputados. Atualmente, a composição é de 12 senadores e 12 deputados - o que é previsto na Constituição e no regimento comum de ambas as Casas. Além disso, a ideia é estabelecer um prazo para a comissão e para a discussão na Câmara e no Senado. Já o presidente do Senado, Rodrigo Pacheco, disse que encontra dificuldades para que os senadores aceitem a proposta da Câmara. Ele defendeu a paridade nas comissões e disse que vai levar as ponderações dos deputados aos líderes do Senado. Preocupado com medidas importantes que vão caducar em junho, o governo Lula pensou em uma alternativa caso não haja acordo e propôs que o Congresso vote apenas três ou quatro medidas provisórias, com o atual sistema, enquanto não se resolve o impasse. Isso inclui a reestruturação dos ministérios e as mudanças no Bolsa Família. No caso das medidas restantes, o governo vai enviar Projetos de Lei com o mesmo teor das MPs e com urgência constitucional. Para Vera Magalhães, a mudança soa como um sinal de desespero. “Ter de recorrer a um expediente como esse mostra um governo meio vendido no meio dessa briga. É uma gestão que não consegue arbitrar a briga, não tem peso para falar ‘parem com essa palhaçada’, porque não tem maioria para isso”, afirma a comentarista.
