Freudiana, the follow-up album to 1987's Gaudi by The Alan Parsons Project, was well into production when creative differences between Alan Parsons and his partner in the Project, Eric Woolfson, resulted in Freudiana's release as a concept soundtrack for a stage musical of Woolfson's design. Released only in Europe, the 1990 album was an odd mix of traditional APP songs and Broadway styled stage tunes, with the band's name missing from the packaging. The stage musical played for a limited time in Vienna, with a German language cast album released in 1991. For this special edition mix of the original 1990 album I've removed the stagier songs and resequenced what's left into something more resembling a typical Alan Parsons Project album of the time. Playlist dessa série: 🤍 A vida mental, para Freud, é dividida em dois níveis: o consciente e o inconsciente. Já estudamos isso anteriormente. Também já vimos que o inconsciente divide-se em outros dois níveis: o inconsciente propriamente dito e o pré-consciente. Nesse vídeo, vamos nos deter no estudo do nível inconsciente da mente. O inconsciente contém todas aquelas pulsões, urgências e instintos dos quais não temos consciência, mas que motivam a maior parte das nossas ações, sentimentos e palavras. Isso quer dizer que embora possamos estar cientes de nossos pensamentos, emoções e desejos, nós frequentemente não estamos cientes dos processos mentais que estão por trás deles. Por exemplo, um homem pode saber que está atraído por uma determinada mulher, mas não entender por completo todas as razões subjacentes a essa atração, e algumas dessas motivações podem até mesmo parecer irracionais. O mesmo pode ser dito em relação à mulher. Como o inconsciente é um nível mental que não está disponível para a mente consciente, como podemos saber se ele realmente existe? Segundo Freud, a existência do inconsciente só pode ser provada indiretamente. From the "lost" Alan Parsons Project album. Though not under the name, both Parsons and Woolfson worked on it. This is the best track from the album, in my opinion, with gorgeous vocals that carry almost parodically sincere lyrics. The album is a mixture of interesting and meh, but at least it has a few highs and has much less synthesized laziness than their later albums.

The Alan Parson Project (1990, German Musical) Back in the '70s, engineer/producer Alan Parsons wanted to dedicate an entire album to fantasy writer Edgar Allan Poe. He hired numerous musicians and singers to help him in what would become the first album of the Alan Parsons Project. Initially meant to be a one-time experience, the "project" turned into a full-time band, and quite a successful one, at that. Some two decades later, Eric Woolfson, Parsons' longtime companion, puts up his own project. This time, it is not about Poe but about Freud. The subsequent band and album are both named Freudiana, as is one of the tracks. And of course, the whole is produced by who else? Alan Parsons himself. The result is a concept album which offers to quote the liner notes: "an image of the composer seen through a Freudian mirror." The lyrics go through various interpretations of Freud's works, studying all his most famous cases (Wolfman, Ratman, Dora, Little Hans, Schreber and the Judge). Some songs (like "Little Hans") are reminiscent of the Beatles which shouldn't be too surprising, considering Woolfson used to be a member of Herman's Hermits. Others are obvious reminders of the Alan Parsons Project (most noticeably "Dora"). The rest can be progressive at times ("Funny You Should Say That," "No One Can Love You Better Than Me") and the whole is very creative and intelligent. Lead vocals, as on all of the Alan Parsons Project releases, are shared by a number of singers from Woolfson himself to Kiki Dee, Eric Stewart, and John Miles. The strongest performances are by Leo Sayer ("I Am a Mirror") and the Flying Pickets (on the strange yet incredibly powerful, "Funny You Should Say That"). Unlike Parsons' Poe project, Freudiana did not lead to any follow-up albums. Probably because this project was too obscure and unsuccessful. A pity. [Freudiana is also available in a German version.]
