We lost track of how many times people commented on how we can make bombs all day long and not end up in prison. Legit prison where Jake would have to join a Latino gang and change his name to Jaco. Well, Sean decided to break it down magic school bus style and explain in great detail how we make bombs, explosives, and destructive devices without getting put in cuffs. Our secret: knowing the regulations as well or better than the federal agencies. Sean has spent years going over the rules and regulations so that we can make tons of explosives and our bomb lab doesn't get shut down. As much as we appreciate FPS Russia's content, we definitely don't want to go down the route he did. This video covers major topics such as National Firearms Act, ITAR, and other regulations that allow us to make things go boom and do it publicly. We also cover topics like why is Tannerite legal? Can you own a grenade? And why can't you buy a javelin over the counter? We aren't lawyers so don't consider us sound legal advice. We can just explain what we know based on our knowledge and experience. Watch the video and hopefully this will quell some of the idiotic comments such as "this isn't legal" or "these guys are totally going to jail." If you want to hire use for consulting or expert witness services, checkout our Ordnance Lab LLC's sister company, Ordnance & Energetics Consulting LLC at 🤍ordnance-consulting.com. Are civil and military explosives the same? In other words, are we using the same explosives in mining and warfare? Well, yes and no. From the ninth century AD (though the historians are still uncertain about the exact date of its invention) to the mid-1800's, black powder was the only explosive available. A single type of explosives was therefore used as a propellant for guns and for blasting purpose in any military, mining and civil engineering application. The Industrial Revolution carried new discoveries in explosives and initiation technologies. A specialization principle, therefore, operates between military and civil application of explosives thanks to new products economics, versatility, strength, precision or capability to be stored for long periods of time without significant deterioration. 🤍 The following factors shall be considered to determine the blast area: • Geology or material to be blasted, • Blast pattern, • Burden, depth, diameter, and angle of the holes, • Blasting experience of the mine, • Delay systems, powder factor, and pounds per delay, • Type and amount of explosive material, and • Type and amount of stemming. #blasting #mining #industry #coal

In our second video on setting off explosives with various types of blasting caps, we demonstrate using the non-electric initiation methods of fuse and nonel shocktube detonators. Electrical systems are what we normally use to set off explosives here at Ordnance Lab as it is very safe and we have total control of the detonation. Not all blasting scenarios call for electrical set ups. Sometimes, we can use it at all. That is where non-electrical methods come into play. We have 2 major methods of detonation explosives without electricity: pyrotechnic fuse and nonel systems. In this video, we discuss pyrotechnic fuse and their different types, demonstrate how fuse works, and introduce the basics of nonel detonators. The history of explosives and propellants, also known generally as ‘energetic materials’, begins with the material known as gunpowder or black powder, whether the intended use was for civil applications such as rock blasting, military uses in demolition, shell filling (bursting charges) and construction projects, or military and civilian propellant charges for shotguns, pistols, rifles, or artillery. The individual inventor of black powder will undoubtedly forever remain unknown, but numerous writers such as Drinker (1878), Munroe (1888), Marshall (1915), and Davis (1941, 1943), have described what is known about its development and evolution: therefore, there will be no such discussion here. Suffice to say that until the discovery of nitrated explosive compounds such as nitrocellulose by Schönbein and Böttger (independently of one another) and nitroglycerin by Sobrero (all occurring in 1846), the only explosive available for any purpose was black powder. The instantaneous release of energy from a relatively small volume of material can be viewed as an explosive event. This is achieved by changes in the chemical composition of the solid, liquid or gas, and the release of chemical energy. Depending on initiation conditions, charge geometry and chemical composition, this reaction can accelerate until a steady value (detonation) has been achieved, or decelerate (deflagration) and eventually die out. The distinction between true detonation and deflagration is not crucial at this stage, as both processes can lead to release of very large amounts of energy in a small fraction of a second. Most incidents involving dust or vapour cloud explosions (flour, sawdust, gasoline vapours, natural gas, etc.) involve only rapid combustion and not detonation. Most commercial explosives such as ammonium nitrate (AN)-fuel oil mixtures exhibit non-ideal behaviour, in that their sensitivity and severity of explosion falls off rapidly with decreasing diameter and lack of confinement. In this discussion, confined to condensed phase explosions, the words ‘detonation’ and ‘explosion’ are used synonymously and no distinction is made between commercial and military explosives. IN both Great Britain and the United States the explosives industry has formed one of the most important nuclei round which the powerful chemical combinations now existing in these two countries have developed. A history of the British explosives industry, edited by E. A. B. Hodgetts, was published in 1909, under the direction of the Explosives Section of the seventh International Congress of Applied Chemistry; the present publication deals with the history of the explosives industry in the United States and Canada, and to some extent in Mexico and South America. It has been written and published under the auspices of the Institute of Makers of Explosives, and the material has been collected from pioneer workers who are still living, from the records and archives of large powder companies, and “for the earlier history, more particularly the origins of the black powder business, data have been found in colonial records and local histories of towns, counties, and states.” #science #technology #boom

Here are ten of the most dangerous military explosives in the world, although this list is not exhaustive or in any particular order: RDX (Research Department Explosive) - a highly explosive and powerful compound used in many military applications. C-4 (Composition C-4) - a plastic explosive commonly used by military forces for demolition and demolition of obstacles. Semtex - a plastic explosive developed in Czechoslovakia and widely used by military and terrorist organizations. TNT (Trinitrotoluene) - a highly stable and powerful explosive commonly used as a reference for comparing the energy of other explosives. HMX (High Melting Explosive) - a highly energetic plastic explosive with a high degree of stability. PE-4 (Pentaerythritol tetranitrate) - a highly sensitive explosive with a high degree of stability. Nitroglycerin - a highly unstable and explosive liquid commonly used as a blasting agent in the construction and mining industries. Ammonium Nitrate - a common ingredient in many explosives and fertilizers, it has been used in numerous terrorist attacks. TATP (Triacetone Triperoxide) - a highly sensitive and volatile homemade explosive that has been used by terrorists. ANFO (Ammonium Nitrate Fuel Oil) - a widely used blasting agent that is relatively stable but can still be highly dangerous if not handled properly. It's important to note that these explosives are highly dangerous and should only be handled by trained professionals. Misuse can result in serious injury or death.

The lost village of Ardeer. Rows of miners' cottages laid out in a rectangle around a huge reservoir; Ardeer Square, as it was called. It was a village in its own right, created in the mid-19th century to provide a workforce for an iron works and coal mines, and totally isolated from nearby Saltcoats and Stevenston. Today, there is absolutely nothing left of it. Like many miners' rows, Ardeer Square was thrown up with little thought to longevity. The houses didn't even have a slate roof, and had no roof gutter to catch rain water; the result was a mud-bath in and around the houses. By the 1920s the houses were more than a little tatty around the edges. They had not lasted - and were not expected to last - and were now slums where men and women did their best in impossible conditions, and in housing that did not even have running water. When the coal mines closed in the 1920s, so too did the iron works they supplied, and the owners of the iron mine, the coal pits and the village went into liquidation. Ardeer iron works was demolished in the 1930s. The village was demolished in the next decade, Did Nobel's explosives factory, later to become ICI - the first dynamite factory in the UK and the largest explosives factory in the world which occupied most of the Ardeer Peninsula - have an impact on the demise of Ardeer village and all the surrounding industries? I think the answer is probably yes. It couldn't have been fun living beside such a large explosives works that witnessed any number of accidental explosions that resulted in deaths and injuries among the workforce. But the real reason Ardeer village was demolished was probably down to the economic slump that hit the UK between the two World Wars. There was great activity and industrial manufacturing during the Great War, and when it ended there followed an industrial slump that eventually saw many coal mines and other businesses go bust. Ardeer village was a casualty of this economic slump, but also a casualty of the men who owned many coal mines in Scotland and who didn't really care enough for the welfare of their workers to provide them with proper housing. This video is dedicated to the men, women and children who lived in Ardeer Square, and whose back-breaking life and work ultimately allowed us all to exist.
Dave recently set out to build his weekend get away property in the remote hills to Melbourne's North. being heavily involved in earthmoving and construction, the site cut should have been a breeze... It was not to be as the Granite on the site would not yield to the heavy machinery and the point on the breaker resembled an old lipstick after only one hours effort. Luckily Dave had heard about another Dave through work contacts and Demolition Dave was able to get the project back on track as soon as COVID travel restrictions were lifted. Another difficult earth moving problem solved thanks to the careful application of high explosives.
