The Torah teaches that there is only one God, while Christians believe in the Trinity. But this doesn't mean Christians worship three gods. Instead, the Trinity represents one true God who exists as three distinct persons in one Divine Being. To understand how both Jews and Christians can embrace the concept of “echad,” which means one in Hebrew, we need to look at the word's meaning. In the Bible, “echad” is used to describe a complex unity, such as a cluster of grapes or a married couple becoming one flesh. From Deuteronomy 6:4, “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one.” The New Testament version of the Shema, a central Jewish prayer, is found in 1 Corinthians 8:6, where Paul acknowledges one God, the Father, and one Lord, Jesus Christ. “But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.” This shows that the Trinity is not polytheism, but rather a belief in one God who exists as three persons in perfect harmony. The word “one” in the Bible is often used to describe the union of two separate things or persons, as seen in Genesis 1:5 – “And there was evening and there was morning, one day/the first day,” or “yom echad.” It describes two separate things, in this case, evening and morning, coming together as one. Genesis 2:24 – “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” Thus, when Christians describe God as one, they mean that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are in complete union and unity, or ‘trinity’ forming the God of the Bible. Concerning the Trinitarian lies told about the Hebrew word echad. The Hebrew word echad operates exactly like the English word "one." There is no reason to believe it is a special word used to imply a "compound unity" or a "complex unity." For example, at Numbers 13:23, "one" cluster of grapes signifies a compound unity of grapes, not because the word ECHAD signifies a compound unity, but because the word CLUSTER signifies a compound unity! "Compound unity" is just another way of saying "ONE GROUP." Notice how our English word one is used to refer to a compound unity - ONE group. Why does the English word "one" also work in the same way if it is not a special word to indicate compound unity? Because it gives the numeric value "1" to a single group of multiple things just like echad does. Examples: one flock, one herd, one one church, one assembly, one trio, one quartet, one cluster, etc. In each case, the word "one" OR the word "echad" is not what indicates compound unity. It is the word associated with it that indicates a compound unity . Each of these is numerically ONE GROUP - one flock, one herd, etc. The notion of compound unity, a group, is not found in the Hebrew word "echad" or the English word "one." These words indicate nothing more than the numeric value 1. Compound unities, groups, are signified by words like cluster, herd, flock, church, etc., because each of these are ONE group with MANY things in that ONE group. All you need to do is realize that the English word "ONE" operates in the exact same manner. The English word "one" isn't a special word for "compound unity" is it? No, ONE group of multiple things is numerically "1" just as the word echad simply means numerically "1".

The scriptural evidence proves that “echad” means “one” in the same way that our English word means one. One can mean more than one thing or person if the context of scripture shows that more than one thing or person is intended. Since Trinitarians cannot demonstrate that “echad” means more than One Divine Individual in the Godhead, it is ridiculous to speculate that One (Echad) means more than One Divine Person for God. The same is true for the Hebrew word Elohim. Trinitarians cannot provide a single scripture where “Elohim” has ever been translated as “gods” for the one true God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Therefore it is ridiculous to assert that Elohim or Echad means more than One God Person in the Hebrew Bible. Echad is the Hebrew word for one and also has the meaning of unity and this is why Yahusha told us he is the vine and we are the branches or Natsarim, because we are united with him He and the father are Echad, which means they are one and since Yahusha is the manifested word of Yahuah then all things created were created through him . One simply cannot successfully argue for the existence of a trinity from the fact the echad can modify a collective noun, therefore, leading us to believe that God is compound. Responding to a Muslim caller, Rabbi Tovia Singer uses Scripture to demonstrate that the Hebrew Prophets opposed the core Christian Doctrine of the Trinity. Moreover, Rabbi Singer illustrates how Christian missionaries routinely manipulate the Hebrew Scriptures an the words 'echad' and 'elohim' in order to ‘prove’ that a triune godhead appears in the Bible. The word “echad” teaches us that God is the ONLY God that we are to serve. To be sure, some translations render this verse as, “Hear Isra’el, the LORD is our God, the LORD alone.” This is the primary meaning conveyed by the use of this word “echad.” That God is our only God is paramount to correctly understanding any revelation of him in his Word. Dr. Michael Brown is widely recognized as the world’s foremost Messianic Jewish apologist. He writes in his lengthy Answering Jewish Objections to Jesus, vol. 2, The Shema—”Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is one” (Deut. 6:4)—is the most basic Jewish confession of faith. What is meant by the word one ('ehad) that is found in this confession? Messianic Jews understand this to mean a compound unity, while traditional Jews understand it to be an absolute unity. The word can mean a compound unity, though it doesn't have to; however, contra Maimonides, it does not mean an absolute unity. Most likely, Maimonides maintained that Jews have to believe that God is “only” one as a reaction to exaggerated Christian concepts of God as “three.” His idea of absolute unity simply cannot be found in the Scriptures. It might help to understand the meaning of 'ehad by looking at some other Scripture passages in which this word is found. In Genesis 2:4, it is used in the phrase “one flesh,” which occurs when a man is united to a woman; in other words, this use of “one” refers to a compound unity. In Exodus 36:13, the joining together of all the many pieces into the one Tabernacle is described by the word 'ehad. In 2 Samuel 7:23 and Ezekiel 37:22, Israel is described as one nation made up of hundreds of thousands of people. Other examples could be produced, but the basic point should be clear: To say that Yahweh, the God of Israel, is 'ehad does not tell us anything about his essential nature, whether he is three in one or ten in one. God and Moses strictly warned Israel to ignore all the other gods worshipped by the surrounding nations and to worship YHWH, and only YHWH. This is the primary meaning of the Shema, and this use of the word 'ehad (“alone,” “only”) can be found elsewhere in the Scriptures (e.g., 1 Chron. 29:1). Certain medieval commentators, including Abraham Ibn Ezra and Rashbam, believed the Shema was emphasizing that “the LORD is our God, the LORD alone,” or as Moshe Weinfeld entitles his discussion of the Shema, “Exclusive Allegiance to YHWH.” This interpretation is also found in the midrash to this passage (see b. Pesahim 56a; Sifre Deuteronomy 31; Genesis Rabbah 98:4). The prophet Isaiah echoes this call to allegiance (see Isa. 44:8; 45:5a; 45:18; 45:22). In other words, this understanding of the word “one” is not primarily interested in the nature of God's being, but is meant to be a profession of faith.[*] *🤍 (but for the full answer see his book at pp. 3-14). In this video we will cover one other common objection to the understanding from Scripture that God is unipersonal (consisting of only one singular conscious rational being). Most people who claim to believe in Jesus Christ say they believe in "one God." But the question arises as to whether God is one in number (unipersonal) or one in unity (tripersonal). Those who deny that God consists of one singular conscious rational being (the Father) will object by turning to Deuteronomy 6:4 and arguing that the Hebrew word for "one" is conveying a composite unity as we read about in Genesis 2:24. They argue that the one LORD God of Deuteronomy 6:4 is only one in essence and purpose (one in unity of multiple persons), but not in singularity of being. It's argued by many that if the LORD God in Deuteronomy 6:4 was only referring to the Father and not a composite deity, then the Hebrew word "yachid" should have been used instead of "echad" for the word we read in English as "one." This video is going to expose the ignorance and even outright dishonesty of theologians who argue for the use of yachid to describe absolute numerical singularity. The Hebrew language is much like the English language in that one word can have multiple meanings. We would understand the meaning of a word such as "one" by examining the context. Context would determine the meaning of the word "one" to let us know if it is referring to absolutely one numerically or if it is referring to a composite unity. The Hebrew word "echad" is similar to our English word "one" in that it generally refers to an absolute numerical singularity (describing one single thing or entity) but it can also refer to a composite unity on rare occasions such as Genesis 2:24 regarding Adam and Eve being "one" flesh. In order to understand why the word "yachid" wasn't used in Deuteronomy 6:4 regarding the LORD God being "one" we need to understand what that word means throughout the Old Testament. "Echad" is used 968 times in the Old Testament, while "yachid" is only used 12 times. If "yachid" refers to absolute numerical singularity, then why is it used only 12 times in the entire Old Testament? All one needs to do is look at how these words are used in the Old Testament to see that "echad" generally refers to absolute numerical singularity such as in Deuteronomy 21:15; Leviticus 5:7; Malachi 2:10; Ecclesiastes 4:8-10; Genesis 22:2, etc... "Yachid" on the other hand refers to an only child that is beloved, and can describe the feeling of being alone. It's never used as a general word for one in number. This is why it's only used 12 times in Scripture. "Echad" is, therefore, the correct word to use to establish absolute numerical singularity. This understanding is what set the Jewish religion apart from all other polytheistic religions. The Jews believed that God was absolutely numerically one and God never corrected their understanding. The trinity doctrine was formulated to try and explain how God could be "one" in light of the distinctions between Father, Son, and Holy Ghost that we read about in the New Testament. Man brought their own ideas and imaginations to the Old Testament and turned the Hebrew word "echad" into a composite unity of persons and began arguing that "yachid" would have been the word to use to establish absolute numerical singularity with regards to God. This video reveals why this is totally false. If God would have been described as "yachid" in Deuteronomy 6:4 it would only convey what kind of God Yahweh is, a beloved and unique God. But if we want to know how many beings or gods Yahweh is, "echad" is the right word to use!
