For that reason there is also an increasing recognition that the academic world should embrace this source of knowledge and help feed into the process. In April 2012 Andrew Gray was appointed Wikipedian in Residence at the British Library, a one year post funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. Med Projekt hbtqi på Wikipedia som startades på initiativ av Biblioteksutveckling Sörmland, Sörmlands museum och Wikimedia Sverige under 2021 har vi tagit ett första steg för att bidra till en global gemenskap som fokuserar på att tillgängliggöra och använda kunskapsresurser. The GLAM-Wiki Revolution is a short documentary about the GLAM programme in the United Kingdom. The GLAM programme is a series of partnerships between Wikimedia UK, a charity which supports Wikipedia and its editors in the UK, and cultural institutions, known collectively as GLAMs (an acronym for Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums). Many choose to play host to a Wikimedian-in-Residence, who acts as a liaison between the institution and the Wikimedia community and works to open up the resources held by the institution through Wikipedia and its sister projects. This documentary gives an overview of the GLAM project in the UK by visiting Wikimedians-in-Residence around the country to learn more about the projects they have run and their experiences in the role. Rasberry’s research interests include open movement, public health communication, source metadata, clinical trials, and LGBT+. The Wikimedians in Residence Exchange Network (WREN) is an official Wikimedia affiliate dedicated to cultural, heritage, and scientific collaboration with partner institutions such as GLAM, NGO and government entities. Rachel Frick, OCLC Executive Director of the OCLC Research Library Partnership, reviews some of the broad agenda items and recent publications related to the work of OCLC Research. Rachel is then joined for two presentations on specific research topics. First, Sharon Streams (OCLC Director of WebJunction) and Monika Sengul-Jones (OCLC Wikipedian-in-Residence) present on “Public Libraries and Wikipedia.” Next, Kenning Arlitsch (Dean, Montana State University Library) and Jeff Mixter (OCLC Senior Software Engineer) share their findings on “Accurate Institutional Repository Download Measurement using RAMP, the Repository Analytics and Metrics Portal.”

Die Tagung war das Ergebnis eines besonderen Projekts: Mit der Einrichtung der Stelle eines "Wikipedian in Residence" im Sommer 2012 haben das Deutsche Archäologische Institut (DAI) und Wikimedia Deutschland eine neue Ebene in der Zusammenarbeit zwischen Wissenschaft und populärem, enzyklopädischem Wissen geschaffen. Aus dieser Schnittstelle zwischen Wissenschaft und der freien Enzyklopädie Wikipedia entsteht unter anderem ein Projekt zur Erarbeitung einer interaktiven Karte des römischen Limes. Während des Symposiums „Wikidata trifft Archäologie. Webbasiertes Geodatasharing in den Altertumswissenschaften" wurde unter anderem der Prototyp einer interaktiven Karte als exemplarischer Anwendungsfall erstmals öffentlich präsentiert. Die Darstellung wird durch die offene Datenbank Wikidata möglich, das neue Schwesterprojekt der freien Enzyklopädie Wikipedia. Wikidata wird durch Wikimedia Deutschland entwickelt und stellt strukturierte Daten zur freien Verfügung zusammen, die sowohl von den Wikimedia-Projekten als auch für wissenschaftliche Zwecke genutzt werden können.
Wikipedia has come under scrutiny over the lack of female representation and participation on the website. To combat this trend, Adrianne Wadewitz was a dedicated "Wikipedian," who wrote and edited content on Wikipedia as one of the nearly 75,000 active volunteer editors.
We interviewed Ewan McAndrew, Wikimedia in Resident at the University of Edinburgh, and Sian, Kirsty and Eleanor, the students involved in some of the projects the university is running to close the gender gap on Wiki projects. Next time you're in National Geographic Treasures of the Earth, scan the QR code to read about the history of Captain Kidd's cannon in Wikipedia. If English is not your native language, our special "QRPedia" codes will display the version of the article in your phone's language, if the article has been translated into that language. The museum partners with Wikipedia because our mission is to create extraordinary learning experiences for families. We know that Wikipedia is a resource used by millions of people around the world who are seeking information. By working with volunteers in the Wikipedia community, we're able to improve the quality of information in Wikipedia articles related to the museum. This ensures that children and adults who are learning about our objects from Wikipedia are getting the best learning experience possible. The museum has contributed many images of our Collections objects to Wikipedia to be used in articles. The museum has over 120,000 objects in its collection. Only a small number of those objects are on display at any given time. Having images in Wikipedia gives people across the world the opportunity to learn about our objects virtually. Lori Phillips has served as the museum's Wikipedian in Residence since August 2010. A graduate student in the Museum Studies program at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, she is the longest running Wikipedian in Residence, and the second in the world to hold the title.
