The Ultimate Southeast Asia Backpacking Experience: 🤍 Sometimes we search for experiences from places far and wide, but what if the greatest place for exploration was right in our backyard? We spent 31 days around South East Asia, backpacking across Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Cambodia. It wasn't an easy ride, but it was well worth every experience and challenge we faced. VIETNAM (00:35) 00:37 - Hoi An We started our Vietnam adventure from Hoi An! 00:42 - Bay Mau Coconut Forest These basket boats are not to be messed with! It's truly a party out here, just ask any of the team members — their tummies did many flips and turns. If you're lucky, you can get to ride on some water buffaloes. 00:47 - Halong Bay It's always fun to get on board a cruise, and just... detach yourself from the hustle and bustle of the city. 00:53 - Ti Top Island You get to explore little islands within Halong Bay on day trips out. 00:59 - Luon Cave Kayaking On this cruise, you also get to be ACTIVE!! And what better way to experience the ocean by kayaking through the beautiful Luon Cave? LAOS (1:14) 01:18 - Luang Prabang 01:23 - Kuang Si Waterfall Our first waterfall experience in this trip was at Luang Prabang's Kuang Si Waterfall! It truly set the standards for waterfall experiences for the rest of our trip. MYANMAR (01:32) 01:35 - Bagan The best way to explore Bagan — both Old and New, would be on bikes, be it e-scooters or bicycles! 01:53 - Balloons Over Bagan Catching the sunrise while on a hot air balloon is truly a once-in-a-lifetime kind of experience. We got up (way too) early for it, but if you ask me, it was worth it. 02:12 - Lashio This was our first taste of real village life! 02:17 - Along the Burma Road (Waterfall Exploration) We headed off with the ultimate SOLID guys from Myanmar Adventure Outfitters and got our adrenaline-fix jumping off smaller cliffs and venturing into waterfalls. 02:27 - Ban Khaw Village We got to stay with the friendly locals and learnt about their day-to-day lives. They welcomed us with the biggest open arms ever! THAILAND (02:45) 02:48 - Chiang Mai Our first stop in our Thailand leg. 02:53 - Elephant Retirement Park Elephants are the national symbols of Thailand, and we got to visit these lovely animals on our Thailand adventure. Renald got emotional interacting with them :'-) And Jerome got a few kisses from some of 'em! :3 03:09 - Pai After braving through 762 turns from Chiang Mai, we made it to Pai. 03:13 - Tham Lod Cave A completely different landscape from everything we experienced above, we were blown away by the sheer beauty and grandeur of the cave. 03:19 - Pai Canyon We got to trek through Pai Canyon and at that very moment, we felt so small in this huge, beautiful world of ours. Made us really reflect on... life! CAMBODIA (03:25) This was our final location in this 31-day adventure. 03:27 - Siem Reap 03:31 - Ang Kor Wat It's definitely not a trip to Cambodia if you don't visit Ang Kor Wat! Catch the sunrise here, it's not to be missed. 03:37 - Bayon Temple Part of the Ang Kor temples sunrise tour, we got to learn more about the history of these ancient temples of Cambodia! 03:45 - Koh Rong Samloem Koh Rong Sanloem is an island off the coast of Sihanoukville, Cambodia, 4 km south of Koh Rong island. 03:51 - Saracen Bay We got to go diving!! The Middle Kingdoms of India picks up where Ancient India left off, and goes through the period following the Mauryan Empire, through the Gupta Empire, and the Delhi Sultanate. The last part is about the Southeast Asian empires and India's influence. It is meant to be an overview. It begins with the Kushan Empire and the spread of Buddhism. It goes through the rulers of the Gupta Empire and its fall. The Muslim invasions would begin in the early Medieval, culminating in the Delhi Sultanate. The cultural part of the video goes into the mixing of the Indian and Islamic culture, and the daily life, art, and architecture of the Middle Kingdoms period. The video ends with an overview of the major Southeast Asian empires, like the Khmer, Pagan, Ayutthaya, and Srivijaya, along with some of their art and architecture as well. When they finally sent two brothers south to determine their prospects for extension, they went ahead and converted back to Hinduism and established the Hindu kingdom of Vijayanagara. In South East Asia, sea routes for trading were key to the rise of empires. A key example of a sea based empire is the Majapahit Empire on the island of Java. These are the Richest Cities, in each of the biggest economies in Southeast Asia Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon is Vietnam’s richest and largest city in terms of land area and population, beating its national Capital Hanoi in the North. As the country’s primary economic center, it accounts for 15.6% of Vietnam’s gross domestic product, or around $56.4 billion with a GDP per capita of $6,328. Kuala Lumpur is the capital and biggest city in Malaysia. Though it is one of the smallest Cities in Southeast Asia in terms of population, it is undeniable that Kuala Lumpur is one of the richest cities per capita in Asia. It contributes $60.4 billion and accounts for 16.2% of Malaysia’s gross domestic product. Metro Manila, the National Capital Region of the Philippines, is the center of culture, economy, finance, education, and government of the country. It is the 4th richest city in the region with a gross domestic product of $124.9 billion which contributes to almost one-third of the country’s economy, despite its small land area. Bangkok is the center of culture, economy, finance, education, and the Government of Thailand. Is the 3rd richest city in the region with a gross domestic product of $168.5 billion which contributes to more than one-third of the country’s economy. While 22% of the Thai population lived within the Bangkok metropolitan area, making Bangkok an extremely primate city, dwarfing Thailand's other urban centers in both size and importance to the national economy. Jakarta is the center of the economy, culture, and politics of Indonesia. It is also the largest city in Southeast Asia and serves as the diplomatic capital of Asean. Jakarta is also the second richest City in the region with a gross domestic product of $203.7 billion, or around 17% of the country’s economy. The city-state of Singapore, as one of the Four Asian Tigers, its economy is the most advanced and highly developed in Southeast Asia.
