Jalalud-Din Mohammad Rūmī was an ancient Persian scholar and Sufi mystic. Today he is considered one of the greatest poets who ever lived. Mawlana Jalaluddin Rumi, the 13th century mystic poet, was truly one of the most passionate and profound poets in history. Now, today his presence still remains strong, due in part to how his words seem to drip of the divine, and startle a profound remembrance that links all back to the Soul-Essence. Full Poem: Rise Up - Rumi Do not turn to look at every beggar that beckons – you belong to me! Do not sell yourself short, For you are priceless. Part the waters with your staff – you are today's Moses. Tear through the cloak of fog! You are of the light, the same light as Mohammad. Shatter the mirrors of the beautiful, you are the dazzling Joseph. Blow the breath of life like Christ – you, too, are of that air. Break away from the unscrupulous; do not fall for the deceit of ghouls. You are of noble origin – you are from the highest high. By spirit, you are deathless – imperishable; magnificent from within. You belong to the glorious – you are of divine radiance. What have you seen of your own beauty? You are still veiled... One dawn, like the sun, you will rise up from within yourself. It is a shame to be shrouded this way like the moon under cloud. Tear through the cloud of body! You are the magnificent moon. You are like a hawk whose feet are bound, tethered to the body – It is with your own claws that you must untie the knots. How joyous is gold when it enters the fire! for it is within the flames where it can show its essence and radiate its virtues. Do not run away from the fire's flames! What will happen if you step into them for trial's sake? It will not burn you, I swear; your face will glow, like gold. For you are Abraham's kin; ancient knowingness is yours. No mine has a jewel like you! This world has no life like you! For this is the world of decay and you are life-giving life. Subscribe for more poetry readings: 🤍 Thank you for watching! Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi, better known simply as Rumi, was perhaps the greatest Sufi mystic and the finest Persian poet of all time. He had a great influence on Muslim writing and culture. It is believed that Rumi would turn round and round while reciting his poetry, and it is this dance which formed the basis for the Whirling Dervishes, after his death. Dervish means doorway, and the dance is believed to be a mystical portal between the earthly and cosmic worlds. Music Composition: Armand Amar Rumi - Poem of the Atoms - Salar Aghili O day, arise! The atoms are dancing Thanks to Him the universe is dancing The souls are dancing, overcome with ecstasy I'll whisper in your ear where their dance is taking them All the atoms in the air and in the desert know well, they are in a frenzy Every single atom, happy or miserable Becomes enamoured of the sun, of which nothing can be said #Rumi #Rumipoetry #wisdom #sufism #dervish #poem

Your love hath set my wits astray, Once a fair town, I'm now in disarray; From home and kin, your love hath made me part, To dwell within the house of aching heart. Inert, I was, too shamed to speak thereof, Yet, at your sight, I found my life's true love; I saw our souls were kindred, pure and true, From kith and kin, I've strayed, dear one, for you. I read of lovers' tales both night and day, And now, in love with you, I am the play. * By all the lives of drunkards, I do swear, I am besotted, ruthless love, beware; Upon the soul of every myrmidon, A kindred spirit, now I am become. By souls emancipated, I declare, In this sweet potion, freedom's in the air; As learned scribe, like Mercury, I'd fare, O'er scholars all, with ink and slate to bear. But when the wine-bearer's brow came into view, I drowned in drink, and all my quills I threw. * Thou bid'st me tear the veil of honour's claim, And so, obedient, I forsook its fame; Thou bid'st me shatter chalices, and hence, I left my friends to bind my heart to thine embrace. - 2) by JZ Come! For in your love I have lost my mind. Once a city, now I am a ruin. From your love I moved out of my home, left my family. Now my bedmate is the pain of longing. Never mind how passive I was before I saw you. Now I’m a real man. When I saw how sweetly our souls were related I became a stranger to my own family. Day and night I consumed the tales of lovers, Now consumed by your love, I am the tale. I swear on the souls of all holy drunkards, I am drunk on your love! O Beloved, take my hand. I swear by all who risk their lives for God, I am life. I swear on the souls of the freed, I am free! I trailed after books like Mercy after the sun. I ranked high among intellectuals. When I saw what was written on the Wine-bearer’s face I broke all pens in my drunken frenzy. You commanded, rip the veil; I ripped it! You commanded, break the chalice; I broke it! You commanded I cut ties with my friends. I left all and bound myself to you. - Persian lyrics transliterated in English: selected lines from Ghazal 1499 beeyā kaz eshq'e to deevāne gashtam vagar shahree bodam veerāne gashtam ze eshq'e to ze khān'o mān boreedam be dard'e eshq'e to hamkhāne gashtam chenān kāhel bodam kān rā nagooyam cho deedam rooy'e to mardāne gashtam cho kheesh'e jān'e khod jān'e to deedam ze kheeshān bahr'e to beegāne gashtam fasāney āsheqān khāndam shab'o rooz konoon dar eshq'e to afsāne gashtam selected lines from Ghazal 1497 be jān'e jomle'ye mastān ke mastam begeer ey delbar'e ayyār dastam be jān'e jomle jān-bazān ke jānam be jān'e rastgārān'ash ke rastam atārod-vār daftar-bāre boodam zebardast'e adeebān meeneshastam cho deedam loh'e peeshānee'ye sāqee shodam mast'o qalam-hā rā shekastam selected lines from Ghazal 1496 marā goftee bedar parde dareedam marā goftee qadah beshkan shekastam marā goftee bebor az jomle yārān bekandam az hame del bar to bastam

Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi was a Persian Muslim poet, an Islamic dervish and a Sufi mystic who lived in the 13th Century in Konya, a city of Ottoman Empire (Today's Turkey). Rumi was a religion teacher and a jurist until the age of 37, when he met Shams Tabrizi, a wandering dervish who became Rumi’s spiritual mentor and changed the course of his life. After the Shams's death, Rumi’s creativity exploded in poetry that was stunning in its scope and creativity. He has been described as one of the most popular poets who ever lived, with widely translated poems into many world's languages and became the best-selling poet in the United States. His popular wisdom quotes have crossed all national and ethnic borders ever since the 13th century. #rumi #rumiquotes #quotes Powerful Mindset is created to inspire, motivate and enlighten you to discover the limitless potential of your life. Helena Bonham Carter gives a reading of the Jalaluddin Rumi poem, ‘The Guest House’ that appears in Allie Esiri’s anthologies ‘A Poem for Every Night of the Year’ and ‘A Poem for Every Autumn Day’. Helena reads this for the launch of the anthology, ‘A Poem for Every Autumn Day’, in a film made during the lockdown summer of 2020 in Wiltshire, England, directed by Paul Weiland. More info on Allie’s books, audiobooks, shows and poetry app, please visit: Website 🤍allieesiri.com Twitter 🤍allieesiri Instagram 🤍allieesiri Allie’s anthologies contain poems for every day of the year, each one with an introduction. Here is how this poem appears in the books: In this poem it almost sounds as if the thirteenth-century Persian poet Rumi is telling his readers to embrace dark thoughts, shame and malice. But what he is really saying is to ‘invite them in’; don’t ignore your feelings. They may be of some higher significance. The Guest House by Rumi This being human is a guest house, Every morning a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor. Welcome and entertain them all! Even if they are a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture, still treat each guest honourably. He may be clearing you out for some new delight. The dark thought, the shame, the malice, meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in. Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.

Sufism began some 9 centuries ago and is focused on reaching the divine - the power that created the skies, the earth, us and life as a whole, through love. It means that in Sufism, we human beings are lovers, the divine is beloved and to love the divine, we need to connect back to the essence of life and understand that we and the world are one. Sufism has given the world some of its brightest minds and poets and one of those people is known as Maulana, Jalāl al-Dīn Muḥammad Rūmī, arguably the best Sufi poet in history. Rumi, a Persian scholar at first, then a Mystic, has written many illustrious poems depicting love and its central role as the bridge to reach the divine; poems that are engraved in the literature books for eternity. His brilliance caught the eyes of people since his childhood. His father, a famous scholar back then, had personally taken the responsibility of teaching him. He deepened his knowledge at a very young age and after the death of his father, he was destined to succeed him as a scholar. But Rumi wanted to learn more, so he connected with another brilliant teacher named Al Tarmithi and a few years later, his teacher left him because he considered that he had nothing left to teach his student, Rumi was now a complete scholar. Rumi was adored by his followers and when he held assemblies, he had a large crowd as attendees. However, life and the divine had other plans for him. In 1244, Rumi encountered Shams Tabrizi, a traveling Sufi dervish who changed his core understanding of life. Rumi became so fond of Shams that he neglected his students and his family and spent days and nights with him, all to grasp the essence of pure love and how to express it to reach the divine. Rumi turned from a Scholar to a Sufi poet who sang for love, danced in circles, which is now called Sufi whirling or the whirling dervish, and wrote poems that are still relevant today continuing to have a deep influence. Do not fear this loss, For you will rise from the earth and embrace the endless heavens. Lose yourself, Lose yourself. Escape from this earthly form, For this body is a chain and you are its prisoner. Smash through the prison wall and walk outside with the kings and princes. Lose yourself, Lose yourself at the foot of the glorious King. When you lose yourself before the King you will become the King. Lose yourself, Lose yourself. Escape from the black cloud that surrounds you. Then you will see your own light as radiant as the full moon. Now enter that silence. This is the surest way to lose yourself. . . . I am the dust in the sunlight. I am the ball of the sun. I am the mist of the morning, the breath of evening. I am the spark in the stone, the gleam of gold in the metal. The rose and the nightingale drunk with its fragrance, I am the chain of being the circle of the spheres, the scale of creation, the rise and the fall. I am what is and is not. I am the soul in all. Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Rūmī (Persian: جلالالدین محمد رومی), also known as Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Balkhī (جلالالدین محمد بلخى), Mevlânâ/Mawlānā (مولانا, "our master"), Mevlevî/Mawlawī (مولوی, "my master"), and more popularly simply as Rumi (30 September 1207 – 17 December 1273), was a 13th-century Persian poet, Hanafi faqih, Islamic scholar, Maturidi theologian, and Sufi mystic originally from Greater Khorasan in Greater Iran. Rumi's influence transcends national borders and ethnic divisions: Iranians, Tajiks, Turks, Greeks, Pashtuns, other Central Asian Muslims, and the Muslims of the Indian subcontinent have greatly appreciated his spiritual legacy for the past seven centuries. His poems have been widely translated into many of the world's languages and transposed into various formats. Rumi has been described as the "most popular poet" and the "best selling poet" in the United States. Rumi, 1207– 1273 CE, was a 13th-century Persian Muslim poet, jurist, Islamic scholar, theologian, and Sufi mystic. Rumi’s influence transcends national borders and ethnic divisions in the Muslim world and beyond. His poems have been widely translated into many of the world’s language. Rumi has become a widely read and popular poet, even in the US. Like other mystic and Sufi poets of Persian literature, Rumi's poetry speaks of love which infuses the world. Rumi's teachings also express the tenets summarized in the Quranic verse which Shams-e Tabrizi cited as the essence of prophetic guidance: "Know that ‘There is no god but He,’ and ask forgiveness for your sin" (Q. 47:19). In the interpretation attributed to Shams, the first part of the verse commands the humanity to seek knowledge of tawhid (oneness of God), while the second instructs them to negate their own existence. In Rumi's terms, tawhid is lived most fully through love, with the connection being made explicit in his verse that describes love as "that flame which, when it blazes up, burns away everything except the Everlasting Beloved." Rumi believed passionately in the use of music, poetry and dance as a path for reaching God. For Rumi, music helped devotees to focus their whole being on the divine and to do this so intensely that the soul was both destroyed and resurrected. It was from these ideas that the practice of whirling Dervishes developed into a ritual form. His teachings became the base for the order of the Mevlevi, which his son Sultan Walad organised. Rumi encouraged Sama, listening to music and turning or doing the sacred dance. In the Mevlevi tradition, samāʿ represents a mystical journey of spiritual ascent through mind and love to the Perfect One. In this journey, the seeker symbolically turns towards the truth, grows through love, abandons the ego, finds the truth and arrives at the Perfect. The seeker then returns from this spiritual journey, with greater maturity, to love and to be of service to the whole of creation without discrimination with regard to beliefs, races, classes and nations. I choose to love you in silence… For in silence, I find no rejection, I choose to love you in loneliness… For in loneliness no one owns you but me, I choose to adore you from a distance… For distance will shield me from pain, I choose to kiss you in the wind… For the wind is gentler than my lips, I choose to hold you in my dreams… For in my dreams, you have no end. Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself. This place is a dream. Only a sleeper considers it real. Then death comes like dawn, and you wake up laughing at what you thought was your grief. Now, today his presence still remains strong, due in part to how his words seem to drip of the divine, and startle a profound remembrance that links all back to the Soul-Essence. Voice: Md Taufikur Rahman Music: SergeQuadrado from Pixabay Transcription: Do you remember how you came into existence? You may not remember because you arrived a little drunk. Let me give you a hint: Let go of your mind and then be mindful. Close your ears and listen! It is difficult to speak to your unripeness. You may still be in your springtime, unaware that autumn exists. This world is a tree to which we cling— we, the half-ripe fruit upon it. The immature fruit clings tightly to the branch because not yet ripe, it’s unfit for the palace. When fruits become ripe, sweet, and juicy, then, biting their lips, they loosen their hold. When the mouth has been sweetened by felicity, the kingdom of the world loses its appeal. To be tightly attached to the world is immaturity. As long as you’re an embryo, all you think about is sipping blood. There’s more to be said, But let the Holy Spirit tell it. You may even tell it to your own ear. Neither I, nor some other “I,” needs to tell you, you who are also I. Just as when you fall asleep, you leave the presence of yourself to enter another presence of yourself. You hear something from yourself and imagine that someone else has secretly spoken to you in a dream. But you are not a single “you,” my friend—you are the wide sky and the deep sea. Your awesome “You,” which is nine hundredfold, is where a hundred of your you’s will drown. #innersphere #rumi #sufism #rumipoetry #love #rumiquotes #sufi #sufism #quotes #spirituality #poetry #innerspherebd

Music & Voice: Md Taufikur Rahman Transcription: O seeker, Listen to your heart’s true yearning— Don’t sleep! Give up one night of your life to the vigil— Don’t sleep! You have spent a thousand nights in the cradle of sleep— I ask for one night. For the sake of the Friend, Don’t sleep! The Loving Witness never sleeps by night, Follow His ways: Give yourself to Him— Don’t sleep! Beware of that woeful night, When you cry out in agony: “O God”— Don’t sleep! That night when Death comes to welcome you— By the dread of that night, O weary one, Don’t sleep! Even stones will cry when bound by the weight of those chains. You are not a stone. Remember those chains— Don’t sleep! Though the night tempts you like a beautiful maiden, do not drink from her cup. Fear the morning after— Don’t sleep! God says, “My dear ones will stay up with me at night.” If you hear these words, Don’t sleep! Fear that horrible night when no refuge can be found. Store up your provisions tonight! Beware! Don’t sleep! The Saints find their treasure when the world is asleep; For the sake of ever-giving love, Don’t sleep! When your spirit is old and worn He will give you a new one, Then you will become the pure spirit of all. O hopeful one, don’t sleep! I have told you again and again— go to that inner silence! But still, you do not hear me. Give me one night And I will give you a thousand in return— Don’t sleep! The 13th-century Sufi mystic Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Rūmī also known as Mevlana, or simply as Rumi, observed that all phenomena of nature are bound together by love. Love is what keeps planets orbiting their stars, stars encircling the centers of their galaxies, and electrons revolving around the nucleus of an atom. Love is the force that keeps us together and moving and immerses an otherwise cold world of matter with warmth. Within the Islamic mystic branch that is known as Sufism, love is seen as a divine essence, and only through the path of love, we can see the truth and become one with the whole, like a drop that becomes one with the ocean. But love is not something to be found outside of us in the material world. The divine essence, something that goes beyond the ego and the senses, lies already inside us at the core of our being. It’s a force that the intellect cannot comprehend and, therefore, our minds cannot search nor perceive it. But we can feel it. And it can only be revealed if we find freedom from what tethers us to the world of matter, and remove the barriers that separate us from a boundless ocean of love. We don't need to seek love. We just have to stop resisting it (the poetry of Rumi). Rumi is one of the most widely read poets in the world. Rumi's poems elegantly and consistently touch our inner being and inspire us to go beyond our limitations towards the Divine. The music: The credits do appear at the end of this video, but it is by the composer, Eleni Karaindrou, and is the theme music called "Eternity and a Day" from the movie, Aggelopoulos. A note on the music: This entire video was constructed in silence-only the poem and the images were put together without my knowing what music would be the right one. The music is so important to the interpretation of these poems. Rather than reading them, the music is my voice. When I 'laid' this beautiful piece of music over the video it fit perfectly. Few edits were made to accomodate the images to fit the music. They seem to be made for each other. Note for those who overlook the message and want to 'claim' Rumi as their own (country, nationality, language) they've missed the point completely and these comments will be deleted. Rūmī was a thirteenth century poet, theologian and mystic. By his mid 20’s he had become an accomplished and highly influential figure in the community. However, a chance meeting with an eccentric dervish by the name of Shams Tabrīz, who was in search of a master student, would cause him to walk away from his life of privilege forever. And the world would never be the same. POEM All day I think about it, then at night I say it. Where did I come from, and what am I supposed to be doing? I have no idea. My soul is from elsewhere, I'm sure of that, and I intend to end up there. This drunkenness began in some other tavern. When I get back around to that place, I'll be completely sober. Meanwhile, I'm like a bird from another continent, sitting in this aviary. The day is coming when I fly off, but who is it now in my ear who hears my voice? Who says words with my mouth? Who looks out with my eyes? What is the soul? I cannot stop asking. If I could taste one sip of an answer, I could break out of this prison for drunks. I didn't come here of my own accord, and I can't leave that way. Whoever brought me here will have to take me home. This poetry, I never know what I'm going to say. I don't plan it. When I'm outside the saying of it, I get very quiet and rarely speak at all.
