I made this video to share what I've learned after making my first wikipedia page. The code takes a little while to get used to but is actually pretty simple with their text editor. You should prepare before hand and write your unbiased article (which shouldn't be about yourself or your business - so get someone else to post it). You'll also need a lot of links to media references that show you or your subject is "notable" enough to be on Wikipedia. If you're a writer, this could included interviews, awards you've one, professional organizations, events you've been involved in, universities or writing classes you attended, etc.

Founded in 1764 as the College in the English Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, it is the seventh-oldest institution of higher education in the U.S. and one of the nine colonial colleges chartered before the American Revolution.At its foundation, Brown was the first college in the U.S. to accept students regardless of their religious affiliation. Its engineering program was established in 1847. It was one of the early doctoral-granting U.S. institutions in the late 19th century, adding masters and doctoral studies in 1887. In the Enterprise, extracting key entities such as names, locations, dates, and industry specific terminology from text can empower organizations to not only improve keyword search but also open the door to enhanced reasoning capabilities previously unavailable. Using robust entity extraction technology allows for the automatic comprehension of words, sentences, paragraphs and whole documents. Categorization, extraction, domain establishment, taxonomy and ontology creation can then be built upon a Semantic Technology infra-structure to exploit the capabilities provided in OWL and RDF. This technology brings value to the Enterprise by allowing users to find, discover and create structured knowledge connections from what were previously unstructured information sets. Expert System S.p.A. and Franz Inc. have paired their respective technologies to show how an advanced entity extractor and scalable RDF database can bring value to your project by unlocking previously unavailable knowledge from unstructured data. The presentation will demonstrate how to represent output from the Cogito entity extractor in an AllegroGraph RDF database, and perform reasoning along with SPARQL queries. We will show an example of collecting 1000 articles scraping Google's news page, and process them through Cogito to create RDF triples for use in AllegroGraph. The presentation will discuss tips and techniques in dealing with these representations, demonstrate how to relate entities to Linked Data such as DBpedia (or other external sources), and finally we will perform a number of queries on the resulting triple store data using some straight forward inferencing.

On February 10th, 2021 the University of San Francisco Center for Asia Pacific Studies welcomed Dr. ann-elise lewallen for an examination of Ainu colonial reckoning and eventual repatriation that unmasks the ongoing violence of settler colonialism in Japan and the ways that honoring kin relations and ancestral places enables a healing process to begin. In Japan, Ainu experiences of Indigenous modernity have been shaped by a trifecta of settler colonialism, violent interruption of Ainu kin relations with land, and severed kin ties with birth communities due to urbanization and economic pressure. From the mid-19th through 20th century, the Japanese state instituted assimilation policies reinforcing racialization of Ainu bodies as distinct from ethnic Japanese. Thousands of Ainu ancestors were robbed from their resting places to be used for research into “evolutionary origins.” From 2016, while courts ordered repatriation of some ancestral remains, roughly 1,676 Ainu remains were still held in Japanese universities. Meanwhile, in 2020 the Japanese government opened its National Ainu Museum (Upopoy), consolidating all domestic Ainu remains under one roof. Contestations for how ancestors should be memorialized and honored oscillate between two poles. On the one hand, some Ainu communities have employed legal modernity using settler tools like the courts to repatriate ancestors. In contrast, others advocate to continue genetic research on these ancestors and thus boost Ainu indigeneity, which invokes a bio-genetic modernity. This talk explores how Indigenous modernity through bio-genetic tools such as DNA and blood testing has been pitted against legal and political tools of modernity such as backing indigenous sovereignty through the UN Declaration on Indigenous Rights, and centrally, self-determination over Ainu ancestors themselves. "Structure of photodissociation fronts in star-forming regions revealed by observations of high-J CO emission lines with Herschel. Atomes Molécules Astroph. (DAMAP), Obs. Paris-Meudon) Invited by: Pierre Guillard Photodissociation regions (PDRs) are key regions in the study of the interstellar medium. They are the interfaces between molecular gas, where stars form, and the surrounding galactic medium (Hollenbach et al. 1999). Understanding the structure and physical and chemical processes in PDRs is necessary to constrain stellar feedback on molecular clouds. The Herschel Space Observatory has opened the possibility to observe, more systematically the warm molecular gas in galactic and extragalactic sources by covering all CO excitation lines from Jup = 4 to Jup = 50. This allows us to build full CO spectral line energy distributions (SLEDs) including high-J levels. Such CO SLEDs have been particularly studied in star-forming regions in order to provide information on the energetic processes acting in these objects. Nevertheless, few clear explanations have been proposed to explain these CO SLEDs and up to recently, it was unclear if, in star forming regions, the CO high-J excitation probes direct heating by UV photons or if additional energy sources are required as shocks or X-rays. To answer to this question, we have studied three typical Galactic PDRs: Orion Bar, NGC 7023 and the Carina nebula. In this talk, I will show that the CO high-J excitation in these objects can be explained by UV heating. I will also explain how this result changes the typical view we have of the morphology of PDRs and of the dynamical effects generated by young stars on their parent cloud. Indeed, we found that the edge of PDRs are characterised by a high pressure zone created by the photo-evaporation of the gas where a hot chemistry takes place. Finally, I will present why it is important to understand the detailed chemical processes leading to the formation of H2 and CH+ in PDRs to interpret such observations. What Are the Origins of Intertextuality? | LITERARY THEORY COURSE The word “intertextuality” derives from the Latin intertexto, meaning to ‘mingle while weaving’. Hi, this is Mihnea. Welcome to UpLife. In this video lesson we will discuss the origins of intertextuality. But first, what is intertextuality? The term “intertextuality” was first introduced in literary linguistics by Bulgarian-born French semiotician and philosopher Julia Kristeva in the late 1960s. In her manifesto - which includes such essays as The Bounded Text and Word, Dialogue, and Novel, Kristeva broke from traditional notions of the author’s influences and the text’s sources. She argued that all signifying systems, from table settings to poems, are constituted by the manner in which they transform earlier signifying systems. A literary work, then, is not simply the product of a single author, but of his/her relationship to other texts (both written and spoken), and to the structure of language itself. Let us now briefly look at the origins of intertextuality. Like modern literary and cultural theory itself, the origins of intertextuality can be traced back to 20th-century linguistics. A major role in understanding intertextuality was played by the Swiss linguist Ferdinand de Saussure (1857-1913). By emphasizing the systematic features of language, Saussure established the relational nature of meaning and texts. Another literary theorist who had a major influence on the theory of intertextuality was the Russian literary theorist and philosopher Mikhail Bakhtin (1895-1975). According to “Cultural Transactions: Nature, Self, Society” by Paul Hernadi, an Emeritus Professor of English and Comparative Literature at University of California, Santa Barbara, Bakhtin emphasized the relation between an author and his work, the work and its readers, and the relation of all three to the social and historical forces that surround them. To sum up, by combining Saussurean and Baktinian theories, Kristeva produced the first enunciation of intertextual theory.
