It should be closed and the lines should be on a separate layer, not on a layer with background colors or anything) ✔ Getting a slight white edge? Or is your color going outside of the shape? Weirdly enough, it didn’t get the respect it really deserved until all of us rewatched the series as adults fully able to grasp the complexities we took for granted the first time it premiered on Nickelodeon. In retrospect, it’s kind of hard to have the proper respect for a story on par with the likes of The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and Harry Potter when it’s sandwiched between reruns of Spongebob Squarepants and The Fairly Oddparents. There’s nothing wrong with either of those, but they are nowhere near Aang and the gang’s level. The story of Aang, Katara, Prince Zuko, Uncle Iroh, Sokka, and Toph’s struggles against the likes of Fire Lord Ozai, Princess Azula and Admiral Zhao could be considered about as perfect as perfect gets. Three seasons of amazing character building, lore and epic showdowns that were greater than we could truly perceive as kids. That’s why rewatching the series makes it better and better because you catch all the little details you wouldn’t have noticed as a kid. Those include things like the character's sleeping habits, their ironic final fates, what their hobbies truly say about them and how scenes were composed. Bobette discusses the radical act of storytelling, by sharing both the destructive power of bearing the untold story, and the new storytelling tools now available to release long-buried stories, to generate healing and make movements that can transform our world. She calls us to cultivate storytelling, so that the living memory of tragic events cannot become buried or lost, and so that history cannot repeat itself. Bobette Buster is the Writer/Producer of the feature documentary, Making Waves: The Art of Cinematic Sound, to be released 2019, with Karen Johnson and director, Midge Costin. She is also a Professor of the Practice of Digital Storytelling, Northeastern University (Boston), and the author of DO STORY: How to Tell Your Story So The World Listens (Do Book Co.UK, 2013; Chronicle Books (US)), now in its 9th printing (translated into five languages), and DO LISTEN: Understand What’s Really Being Said, Find A New Way Forwards, Do Book Co (UK) 2018; Chronicle Books (US). Bobette’s lectures on “Sound + Storytelling” and “Deconstructing Master Filmmakers” has put on the Visiting Faculty of Pixar Studios, Disney Animation, Catholic University of Milan, La Fémis (Paris) as well as many film and business programs worldwide. In addition, Bobette leads workshops on “How to Tell Your Story So the World Listens” to corporations in-house, including Google (Dublin, London), the BBC, and Animation Ireland. Bobette discovered her passion for storytelling while gathering the oral history of her Kentucky family’s and their neighbors’ Revolutionary War Land Grant farms heritage, a collection now housed in the Kentucky Museum Archives. She holds a BS Speech from Northwestern University (Evanston) and an MFA from the University of Southern California’s Peter Stark Producing Program. She worked as a creative story executive in Hollywood for Tony Scott, Ray Stark and Larry Gelbart, while also creating the first MFA course for Feature Film and Television Development at USC, where she was an Adj. Despite humanity’s technological developments and will to progress, we’re still utterly dependent on nature. Human effort has its limitations and is always in conjunction with nature. We cannot grow a plant, for example, completely isolated from natural growth, even though we can influence and manipulate it. The reputed author of the Tao Te Ching, Lao Tzu, stated that the world governs itself. It doesn’t need our intervention. As Lao Tzu wrote: “When you arrive at non-action, nothing will be left undone.” End quote. This idea resembles the basic understanding of the paradoxical concept “wu-wei.” But when we look for a definition of wu-wei, we quickly discover that there isn’t one fixed meaning. Some translate wu-wei as “non-action,” or “doing nothing,” others as “actionless action,” and others as “effortless action.” We find out that Taoism offers several layers, if you will, regarding how wu-wei can enhance our relationship with the world. And how this ancient art of “letting things happen” doesn’t necessarily make us passive, ignorant bystanders but can actually improve how we act, leading to better outcomes. You might always not have an emergency kit with you, but there’s one thing you, me, and probably most other people on this planet will not leave the house without. That’s right, our phones! Yeah, you might be addicted to your phone, but it could end up saving your life in an emergency! You can call 911 in North America or 112 in Europe even if the phone is blocked, deactivated, or it has no sim card inside! But let’s go a little more extreme. Imagine your phone has run out of power. If you can’t use it as intended, then just take it apart! A smartphone is full of survival treasures: the screen, wires, battery, chips. All of them will make your life much easier if you’re alone in the wilderness with nothing but a dead phone in your hand. It can be a razor blade, a needle, a fishing line, or a short survival instruction in a plastic bag. - Almost any battery, including the one in your smartphone, can be used to start a fire. Put one end of the wire on the positively charged node of the battery and the other on the negative one. It’ll immediately glow red-hot, so your time is limited! - Use the screen to reflect sun- or moonlight. Sun reflections can be seen over long distances, just like a flashlight! - Even the oldest cellphone models have a magnet in them and a piece of wire that can serve as a needle for the compass. It’ll show your location on a map so that your loved ones know where you are and how to find you. - Emergency apps like SOS+ let you push an alarm button on your phone so that all the people in your emergency contact list will know that something has happened to you. - There’s an app called SaveMePro that lets you call 911 without having to actually dial the number! - If you’re heading to the mountains, be sure to download the Uepaa! The app that lets your smartphone work as a transmitter that sends a signal for up to 1,500 ft. - Facebook Safety Check works automatically if you have the Facebook app on your phone. The app determines if you’re in a disaster zone and sends you a special request. And possibly even a few near explosions! So today, we decided to spread the most common mistakes people make while fueling up! For example, do you remember that thing about static electricity igniting invisible fuel vapors? Well, get this: when you get out of the car, your clothes sliding against the seat fabric creates some static charge. And when you grab that metallic nozzle, a spark can happen. That tiny spark can light up those gas vapors! You also can't fill them up inside your car or its trunk because static electricity can ignite fuel vapors. Always put the container on the ground. - Don’t assume all pumps are accurate and in perfect working order. Equipment can go bad, and gas station workers might not notice it right away. - Topping off your fuel tank can affect your car’s performance and could possibly damage the engine because of the built-up pressure. - There’s this thing called card skimming – which is when an illegal reader is attached to a payment terminal. Anybody can walk up to the pump and put that thing on there! - If your tires are underinflated, you don’t get as good gas mileage. Then you end up spending more because you have to fill up more often. - To dispel any electric charge on you, just touch a metal part of your vehicle before you reach for the nozzle. - Keep some hand sanitizer with you at all times, and use it as soon as you’re done filling up. Don’t wait until you’ve reached your destination because you’ll already have spread those germs all over your car, phone, and your face! - Look at the dashboard and find the small arrow near the gas gauge. If it’s pointing left, the car’s tank is on the left. - Even if you’re quick about grabbing your snack or paying for your gas, skilled thieves will already have “slid” into your car, grabbed anything valuable, and fled the scene with time to spare! - Get premium only if your car requires high-octane gasoline. - Let's say you place the nozzle inside the tank and suddenly see it’s caught on fire. First, don't remove the nozzle – just back away. Shut off the fuel at the pump using the emergency shut-off switch. But why are phone screens made of glass, and not something harder to crack like plastic? Plastic is more resilient than glass when dropped. And you could actually buy smartphones with plastic screens for a much lower price. Maybe this is gonna happen in the future? Speaking of the future, phone manufacturers are always looking for new ways to make our gadgets more durable and smarter. And sometimes when they start thinking about what the smartphones of the future will look like, they end up with some interesting ideas. There’s a chance that smartphones might one day completely replace our banks and credit cards.
